Gov. Lee, General Assembly Deliver Conservative Wins in 2021 Session

Tennessee | May 7, 2021

NASHVILLETenn. – Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee marked the close of the 2021 legislative session, which includes the passage of his $42.6 billion budget and full agenda as outlined during his State of the State address in February.

“Lieutenant Governor McNally, Speaker Sexton and the members of the General Assembly have been key partners in reducing crime, supporting strong families and strengthening our economy, especially in rural Tennessee,” said Gov. Lee. “I commend the legislature for their work this session to pass measures that will benefit Tennesseans and continue our reputation for conservative fiscal management.”

“We were presented with many challenges this session and we met each and every one,” said Lt. Gov. McNally (R-Oak Ridge). “We invested in education and kept taxes and debt low. Most importantly, we ensured our state pension system remains fully funded for years to come. This protects our fiscal stability and our state credit rating. I am thankful to Gov. Lee, Speaker Sexton and every member of the General Assembly for their tremendous work on behalf of the people of Tennessee this session.”

“I greatly appreciate Gov. Lee, his administration, Lt. Gov. McNally, the House and the Senate for their continued partnership, which has led to a smooth and incredibly successful legislative session,” said Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville). “Solutions to improve childhood literacy, our debt-free balanced budget, permitless handgun carry, criminal justice and truth in sentencing reform and preserving our election integrity will continue to move this state forward in a conservative direction. I am proud of these and other achievements that will allow Tennessee to maintain its status as a national leader for all others to follow.”..

Bill Allowing Permitless Carry of Handguns Passes Texas Senate

Texas | May 7, 2021

Yesterday, the Texas Senate passed HB 1927, which would allow Texas residents 21 and older that are not “otherwise prohibited by state or federal law” to carry a handgun without a permit. The bill cleared the Texas Senate 18-13 and had already cleared the Texas House on April 16 by a margin of 84-56. Multiple changes were made to the version of the bill that the Senate signed, so it’s been sent back to the House.

Governor Greg Abbott has said that he intends to sign the bill as soon as it hits his desk…

Texas Senate Passes Permitless Gun Carry Bill

Texas | May 6, 2021

The Texas Senate on Wednesday approved a bill that would allow eligible residents 21 years and older to carry a handgun openly or concealed without a permit, also known as constitutional carry.

House Bill 1927 passed the Republican-led Senate in an 18-13 vote following a lengthy debate and will now head back to the House to debate amendments and settle differences between the two chambers’ versions. The House had passed the measure in mid-April.

Gov. Greg Abbott has previously signaled that he is supportive of such a bill and told WBAP’s Rick Roberts last week that he was willing to sign such a measure.

“Once the Senate passes it out, the House and Senate will convene and work out any differences and get it to my desk and I’ll be signing it,” Abbott said.

Under current Texas law, residents are required to obtain a permit to carry handguns. To obtain the permit, applicants must complete classroom training, pass a written exam, submit fingerprints, and pass a proficiency demonstration…

Kansas Lawmakers Override Governor’s Gun Bill Veto, Lowering Concealed Carry Age to 18

Kansas lawmakers on Monday voted to override Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto of a gun bill, lowering the minimum concealed carry age from 21 to 18 years of age.

After a short discussion, the House voted 84 to 39 to override the Democratic governor’s veto of HB 2058 that proposes to let more people carry guns if they have a proper permit. The Senate also voted to override the veto 31 to 8.

Republicans currently hold an 84–41 majority in the state’s lower chamber and a 29–11 majority in the state Senate. A two-thirds vote in both chambers is required to overturn a veto. With that achieved, the bill will be enacted without the governor’s signature…

‘God Isn’t Done with America Yet,’ Mike Pence Says in Speech about Nation’s Future

District of Columbia | May 3, 2021

Former Vice President Mike Pence said last week he remains hopeful in the future of America and believes Republicans will re-capture the White House and Congress in the next four years. Speaking Thursday at a Columbia, S.C., event sponsored by the Palmetto Family Council, Pence criticized the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration while touting the accomplishments of the Trump-Pence White House and promoting a future conservative agenda. He encouraged people of faith to deepen their trust in God…
