U.S. crude oil price tops $80 a barrel, the highest since 2014
Texas | October 8, 2021
West Texas Intermediate crude futures, the U.S. oil benchmark, crossed $80 per barrel on Friday for the first time since November 2014 as demand rebounds while supply remains tight.
The U.S. oil benchmark jumped more than 2% to trade as high as $80.09 on Friday. Brent crude, the international benchmark, advanced 1.7% to $83.32 per barrel. Oil prices have surged in recent days alongside a broader rally in commodities including natural gas and coal amid an energy crunch that’s sweeping Europe and Asia.“The $80 print became an inevitability,” said John Kilduff, partner at Again Capital. “Despite the rise in U.S. crude oil inventories in this week’s report, the global market remains tight and in a supply deficit. … Unless and until OPEC+ acts to meaningfully increase supplies, prices will grind higher still.”….(Excerpts from CNBC)

Gas Prices Hit 7-Year High
District of Columbia | October 7, 2021
Gas prices have reached a seven-year high, skyrocketing nearly 50 percent over the last year. The national average price of gas on Wednesday hit $3.22, according to AAA, up from $2.18 just a year ago. The spike comes as oil prices have surged in recent weeks to their highest level since 2018. Analysts say the elevated energy prices can be attributed to a global shortage of natural gas, which has heightened demand for alternative fuel sources such as oil…. Biden draws ire of GOP, progressives with call to boost OPEC output
District of Columbia | August 20, 2021
The Biden administration managed to draw criticism from both Republicans and progressives last week when it called on other countries to produce more oil amid high gasoline prices in the U.S.
Environmentalists rebuked the White House for encouraging the use of more fossil fuels at a time when the effects of climate change are intensifying, while Republicans responded by arguing President Biden’s energy policies have increased America’s reliance on foreign oil.
“The progressives see the hypocrisy in President Biden’s action just like we do,” House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (La.) said in an interview Tuesday.
“President Biden said he would be a uniter and I guess he has because he’s uniting conservatives and progressives who are all pointing out that his energy strategy is incredibly anti-American and foolish,” Scalise said… (Excerpts from the Hill)

Alaska Governor Blasts Biden For Devastating America’s Poor With Bans On American Oil
Alaska | August 16, 2021
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Gov. Mike Dunleavy is frustrated.
In just its first eight months, the Biden administration has halted logging plans in the state’s southeast Tongass National Forest, barred federal land releases to Native veterans, and shut down oil and gas operations on the North Slope of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) as it shops overseas for fuel. All without consulting with the governor who runs the largest state in the nation by land mass, home to 60 percent of federal lands.
“We’ve had no contact with Joe Biden, no matter how many times we’ve asked,” the Republican governor told The Federalist in an interview Wednesday. He added his office was even left in the dark on the U.S.-China summit that occurred in Anchorage five months ago. “We heard that in the press.”
The Biden administration has aggressively crusaded to bar development in the country’s greatest untapped resource in the name of environmental stewardship, as if in an effort to transform the state into a national park saved for the wealthy who can afford a visit… (Excerpts from The Federalist)

Joe Manchin hit with West Virginia ads urging him to oppose Biden pick Tracy Stone-Manning
West Virginia | July 29, 2021
A pro-energy group launched ads Thursday in West Virginia urging Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin III to vote against Bureau of Land Management nominee Tracy Stone-Manning over her involvement in a 1989 tree-spiking plot.
Power the Future’s six-figure ad buy focused on her decision as a graduate student to retype and mail an anonymous letter to authorities warning of spiked trees in Idaho’s Clearwater National Forest on behalf of the perpetrators.
Mr. Manchin voted last week in committee to approve her nomination, calling her a “youthful sympathizer for the environment,” while the ad accused him of backing “a Biden nominee with a history with eco-terrorists.”
“Joe Manchin claims he is the most independent, bipartisan member of Congress,’” says the 30-second ad. “But he’s supporting a Biden nominee with a history with eco-terrorists. Tracy Stone-Manning colluded with a group engaged in tree spiking, a terrorist tactic that maims and even kills unlucky workers. If that doesn’t disqualify someone from running federal lands, what does?”
Mr. Manchin also voted Tuesday to discharge her nomination to the full Senate after the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee split 10-10 along party lines on her bid to head the agency…. (Excerpts from the Washington Times)
