Arizona Town Facing ‘Nightmare’ Migrant Influx

Arizona | July 30, 2021

In the normally peaceful desert town of Gila Bend, nestled 100 miles north of Arizona’s border with Mexico, illegal aliens have been arriving daily since the town declared a state of emergency in March.

The migrants were all on foot, and all appeared to be bound for parts unknown, carrying with them only their backpacks and the clothes they have on.

“What we are literally getting is a flood of migrants walking into town,” said Gila Bend Mayor Chris Riggs, who requested a state of emergency be declared when a busload of 30 migrants was dropped off without any warning by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Riggs said the migrant bus came as a shock—not just to the city’s 1,900 residents—but to municipal resources already stretched thin by the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic….(Excerpts from the Epoch Times)

A dozen GOP governors urge Supreme Court to let states regulate abortion

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas | July 29, 2021

A dozen Republican governors on Thursday urged the Supreme Court to eliminate federal protections for abortion and instead allow states to regulate abortion.

Led by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, the group argued in a legal filing that the court’s landmark 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade, which established the constitutional right to abortion, and subsequent rulings unlawfully encroach on states’ rights.

“The judicial constitutionalization of abortion represents an unwarranted intrusion into the sovereign sphere of the States,” they wrote. “Returning to the States the plenary authority to regulate abortion without federal interference would restore the proper (i.e., constitutional) relationship between the States and the Federal Government.”

The amicus brief endorsed Mississippi’s effort to have Roe v. Wade overruled next term, and was signed by the Republican governors of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas….(Excerpts from The Hill)

Arizona Senate Issues Fresh Subpoenas for 2020 Election Audit

Arizona | July 28, 2021

Arizona senators issued a new subpoena to the state’s largest county on July 26 for materials related to the 2020 election.

Arizona Senate President Karen Fann and Arizona Senate Judiciary Chairman Warren Petersen have ordered Maricopa County’s Board of Supervisors to turn over ballot envelopes or ballot envelope images, voter records, and routers or router images.

The Republican-controlled board was also commanded to provide all findings concerning any systems breach that took place within six months of the Nov. 3, 2020, election, as well as all usernames and passwords for machines used in the election.

The board was also told to appear at the Arizona State Capitol for a hearing on Aug. 2.

Failure to comply may constitute contempt of the Legislature, the board was told…. (Excerpts from the Epoch Times)

GOP Congressmen Schedule News Conference at Justice Department to Demand Answers on Jan. 6 Detainees

Arizona, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Texas | July 27, 2021

Members of Congress who have been pressing federal law enforcement officials unsuccessfully for months about the conditions and treatment of hundreds of Jan. 6 Capitol detainees will take their case to the doors of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Tuesday.

They also want to know why federal law enforcement authorities were warned weeks before the breach, yet Members of Congress were not told, and evidence has since accumulated that the Capitol Police were not properly informed or prepared by their leadership.

Representatives Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said Monday they will gather at DOJ at 1 pm to make public the demands they made in a letter last week to Attorney General Merrick Garland…. (Excerpts from the Epoch Times)

More Than a Third of States Tightened Voting Laws This Year

Arizona | July 27, 2021

Republicans’ desire to increase voting integrity has resulted in new laws implemented around the country this year, The Hill reported Tuesday.

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University said legislatures in 18 states have passed 30 bills that tighten voter access, with more than 400 bills with similar provisions having been introduced in 49 states in the 2021 legislative sessions.

At least 25 states enacted 54 laws with provisions to expand voting access, the Brennan Center said.

Every new voting law has been passed in states where Republicans own total control of the legislature, The Hill said, and all but two of the states also are run by GOP governors. The exceptions are Kentucky and Louisiana….

Arizona | July 27, 2021

Arizona Senate Republican leaders have issued a subpoena to Maricopa County officials looking for routers and other data as part of the ongoing audit of the 2020 election, the Arizona Republic is reporting.

The newspaper said state Senate President Karen Fann and Senate Judiciary Chairman Warren Petersen demanded that the county board of supervisors make the information available for a 1 p.m. hearing on Monday.
