Tim Scott warns Dems’ plan to tax unrealized gains risks wrecking the entire US system
District of Columbia, South Carolina | October 26, 2021
South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott joined “Life, Liberty & Levin” on Sunday to analyze the state of Congress, criticizing Democratic majority leadership for locking out Republicans from negotiations on the multi-trillion-dollar socioeconomic overhaul legislation dubbed human infrastructure. Scott told host Mark Levin that Democrats did not receive a proverbial mandate from voters in 2020 to enact such a sweeping transformation of the American socioeconomic system, given that they cling to a three-vote margin in the House plus three vacancies. In addition, the U.S. Senate has no outright majority save for Vice President Harris’ tie-breaking position in the 50-50 split therein…. (Excerpts from Fox Business)

Lawmakers Introducing Legislation Targeting Enablers of International Corruption After Pandora Papers Findings
District of Columbia, Florida, New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee | October 7, 2021
A bipartisan group of lawmakers is set to introduce new legislation aimed at stopping enablers of international corruption in response to the findings highlighted in the Pandora Papers investigation.
The Establishing New Authorities for Business Laundering and Enabling Risks to Security (ENABLERS) Act would make it harder for “kleptocrats” across the globe to launder money in the United States, according to Reps. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), and Joe Wilson (R-S.C.).
The bill (pdf) would amend the 51-year-old Bank Secrecy Act by enabling the Treasury Department to impose stronger due diligence requirements on the source of funds for investment advisers, art dealers, attorneys involved in financial activity, company service providers, accountants, PR firms, and third-party payment providers.
Such a due diligence requirement could be something as simple as asking if suspicious funds are the proceeds from a crime…. (Excerpts from the Epoch Times)

Concealed Carry Permit Holders in South Carolina Can Now Carry Handguns Openly
South Carolina | August 18, 2021
Effective August 15, South Carolina residents who have concealed carry permits may openly carry their handguns. Governor Henry McMaster signed the bill into law in May but held a ceremonial signing on Friday.
The new law also eliminates a $50 fee to obtain a concealed carry permit and lowers the number of bullets someone must fire at a target in an accuracy test from 50 to 25 shots. In South Carolina, residents who wish to carry their handguns must go through eight hours of training and pass a background check that includes fingerprinting.
It’s not “Constitutional Carry,” which requires no permit to carry openly or concealed, but South Carolina joins a number of states that have eased gun restrictions in recent years. So far, 21 states allow permit-less carry, open or concealed. Gun-rights supporters believe that the Second Amendment protects the right of citizens to own guns and carry them without government permission. They also advocate national reciprocity, in which states that allow concealed carry must recognize permits from other states…. (Excerpts from Black Community News)

States That Mandate Vaccine Passports Must Also Require Voter ID Under New Bill
District of Columbia, North Dakota, South Carolina | August 13, 2021
Republican lawmakers on Thursday introduced the Vaccine Passport and Voter ID Harmonization Act, legislation that would require states mandating vaccine passports to also mandate voter ID requirements.
The Daily Caller News Foundation first obtained the text of the bill, introduced by Kevin Cramer of North Dakota in the Senate and Nancy Mace of South Carolina in the House, “requiring states and local jurisdictions that institute vaccine passports to require voter identification in federal elections.”
“It makes no sense for Democrats to adamantly oppose commonsense Voter ID policies which protect the integrity of our elections,” Cramer said in a statement.
“If they’re comfortable making people show their private medical records to simply go to a restaurant, they should be fine having people prove they are who they say they are before they vote,” he continued. “Our legislation shines a light on their hypocrisy.”..
