A dozen GOP governors urge Supreme Court to let states regulate abortion
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas | July 29, 2021
A dozen Republican governors on Thursday urged the Supreme Court to eliminate federal protections for abortion and instead allow states to regulate abortion.
Led by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, the group argued in a legal filing that the court’s landmark 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade, which established the constitutional right to abortion, and subsequent rulings unlawfully encroach on states’ rights.
“The judicial constitutionalization of abortion represents an unwarranted intrusion into the sovereign sphere of the States,” they wrote. “Returning to the States the plenary authority to regulate abortion without federal interference would restore the proper (i.e., constitutional) relationship between the States and the Federal Government.”
The amicus brief endorsed Mississippi’s effort to have Roe v. Wade overruled next term, and was signed by the Republican governors of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas….(Excerpts from The Hill)

Republican Governors Are Signing Pro-Life Laws All Across the Country
Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma | April 30, 2021
Republican governors across the U.S. are ramping up pro-life legislation as President Joe Biden continues to expand abortion access.
The newest pro-life laws have been signed this week in Arizona, Oklahoma, Montana, and Idaho.
On Tuesday, Republican Arizona Gov. Greg Ducey signed SB 1457 into law, legislation banning abortions based on a diagnosis of genetic abnormality like Down Syndrome.
“Every life holds immeasurable value — regardless of genetic makeup,” Ducey tweeted. “Today I signed legislation to prioritize life in our preborn children and protect those with genetic abnormalities. Arizona remains among the top pro-life states in the nation, and my sincere thanks goes to Senator Nancy Barto for her leadership and work on this life-saving issue and to those who supported this bill.”..

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte Signs 3 Pro-Life Bills: ‘Life Is Precious’
Montana | April 29, 2021
The governor signed legislation that will ban abortions past the 20th week of gestation, when scientists say unborn babies can experience pain.
The other bills will require health professionals to offer pregnant women an opportunity to view an ultrasound prior to having an abortion and require abortion-inducing drugs to be administered in person rather than through telemedicine.
“It’s a promising day, a day that will go down in our state’s history as we defend life,” Gianforte said, thanking Republican Reps. Lola Sheldon-Galloway, Amy Regier, and Sharon Greef for following the bills through the Montana legislature.
“We have waited 48 years to see our governor in Montana sign this bill,” Sheldon-Galloway, who sponsored the measure to ban abortions after 20 weeks of gestation, said, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).
Sheldon-Galloway referred to the marked pro-life shift in Montana with Gianforte in the governor’s seat following the state’s many years under Democrat governors who vetoed attempts to pass previous pro-life legislation passed by Republican lawmakers…

Red State Pro-Life Reforms Could Spark Supreme Court Standoff
Montana, Oklahoma | April 28, 2021
Republican-controlled state legislatures are pushing back against the Biden administration’s attempt to expand abortion access, a standoff that could end up before the Supreme Court.
Montana governor Greg Gianforte (R.) and Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitt (R.) each signed three bills into law Monday, making their states the latest in a line of Republican-controlled states to push back as the White House has loosened restrictions on at-home chemical abortions and restored taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood under the Title X program.
The most noteworthy piece of legislation signed into law Monday was a fetal heartbeat bill in Oklahoma. The legislation threatens doctors who perform abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected with jail time, except when the mother’s health is in danger. Montana passed a less expansive ban on abortions after 20 weeks. Republican legislators who voted for the Montana bill said the law will prevent babies capable of feeling pain from being aborted.
“With pro-life bills spreading like wildfire across the nation, it’s clear that Americans want their legislators to continue to pass life-saving laws that defy the pro-abortion extremism on display in Washington,” said Sue Liebel, state policy director for the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List…
