Virginia’s Youngkin Vows to Be ‘Education Governor’
Virginia | November 14, 2021
Less than two weeks after his election victory, Virginia Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin renewed a pledge to remove the controversial critical race theory (CRT) from the state’s schools.
“I am going to be the education governor; this is going to happen,” Youngkin said at a thank-you rally held outside Loudoun County Public Schools administration building in Ashburn, Virginia, on Nov. 13.
Five months earlier, the then-candidate stood at the same place to announce that he would ban CRT from Virginia schools on day one if elected. From that point, education would become his main campaign theme.
Youngkin is set to be the state’s first Republican governor in nine years, while the GOP also took control of Virginia’s House of Delegates…. (Excerpts from the Epoch Times)

‘That’s Not America’: Winsome Sears Says Voters Are Tired of Racial Politics
Virginia | November 14, 2021
Virginia Lieutenant Governor-elect Winsome Sears (R) said that she believes voters elected her, in part, because they do not support the idea that people should be alienated over their race.
“They’re tired of the Black against White and the Asian against Latino,” Sears, the first Black woman elected to statewide office in Virginia’s history, said of her voters during a “Fox News Sunday” appearance. “They’re tired of it, and they’re tired of politicians who won’t let the wounds of the past heal.”
She also emphasized that she always felt she belonged in “whatever room I’m in,” adding that she is capable of accomplishing whatever it is she wishes to pursue… (Excerpts from the Townhall)

History-making Winsome Sears ready to work in Virginia
Virginia | November 14, 2021
Winsome Sears says voters learned where she stands as she made history campaigning to become the first Black woman elected to statewide office in Virginia.
But Sears may be less known for her policy positions than for a campaign photo showing the 57-year-old former Marine posing with a military rifle. The image launched the Republican from political obscurity after a nearly 20-year absence from elected office to win the GOP‘s nomination for lieutenant governor, and she completed her comeback in November as Republicans swept Virginia’s top offices.
Those who know her say Sears is more than a gun-toting caricature – they point to her willingness to buck her own party at times, and her dedication to school choice and other conservative education priorities. The photo grabbed attention, but she held it with an engaging, almost stream-of-consciousness speaking style, firing up the crowds for her ticket mate Glenn Youngkin, now the governor-elect…. Historic wins in Virginia illuminate growing diversity in Republican ranks
Virginia | November 11, 2021
The historic election wins by Lt. Gov.-elect Winsome Sears and Attorney General-elect Jason Miyares in Virginia showcased the increasing diversity among Republicans and the party’s success in recruiting women and minority candidates to deliver a conservative message of freedom and opportunity.
Ms. Sears, the first Black woman elected statewide in Virginia, and Mr. Miyares, the first Hispanic to win statewide in the commonwealth, swept into office with Republican Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin in a state that has been trending blue for more than a decade.
The result has been difficult for Democrats to digest. They have heralded themselves as warriors for minority communities and cherished opportunities to boast about breaking through glass ceilings…. (Excerpts from the Washington Times)

White suburban moms give Democrats wake up call, reveal why they voted for Youngkin — and make dire prediction for Dems
Virginia | November 7, 2021
When angry Democrats lashed out over Terry McAuliffe’s loss in Virginia last week, they blamed “white supremacy” and racism for Republicans winning, but particularly directed their ire at white suburban moms.
Now, some of those moms are speaking out.
What happened?
CNN anchor Pamela Brown sat down with four white suburban moms to understand how President Joe Biden won a greater share of white suburban moms in the 2020 election, but Glenn Youngkin carried a greater share of them last week.

Three of the four women voted for Biden; none of them are registered Republicans (one is a registered Democrat, two are independents, and one is unaffiliated), yet all four supported Youngkin…..(Excerpts from the Blaze)

Florida’s DeSantis proposes ‘Election Crimes’ office
Virginia | November 4, 2021
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday he would introduce a new package of election integrity legislation that included the establishment of an “Office of Election Crimes and Security.”
The office would be tasked with investigating election crimes and fraud, DeSantis said .
“I am excited that with this legislation, our state will be able to enforce election violations, combat voter fraud, and make sure violators are held accountable,” he said. “If potential violators know they will be held accountable, they will be much less likely to engage in improper conduct in the first place.”
The DeSantis legislation would also ban “insecure haphazard drop box locations” anywhere in the state and would make ballot harvesting, which is prohibited, a third-degree felony.
The legislation would also require county election supervisors to adhere to a timeline to purge voter rolls of ineligible voters.
DeSantis plans to introduce the proposals in the next state legislative session, which begins in January. He said the changes he is pitching would make Florida “the No. 1 state for elections.”… (Excerpts from the Washington Examiner)
