Facebook to Hire 10,000 Workers in EU to Build Up ‘Metaverse’

Facebook Inc. FB -1.15% is planning to create 10,000 jobs in the European Union over the next five years to build a virtual realm it sees as a key component of its future and a major driver of new technology investment.
The U.S. social-media giant said Sunday it would embark on a recruiting drive for highly skilled workers in the region to help build a “metaverse,” an online realm where users engage with one another using technologies including virtual and augmented reality. The company said it would focus on hiring in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands and Ireland.
Facebook said in a blog post that the investment “is a vote of confidence in the strength of the European tech industry and the potential of European tech talent.”
“As we begin the journey of bringing the metaverse to life, the need for highly specialized engineers is one of Facebook’s most pressing priorities,” it said…. (Excerpts from the Wall Street Journal)

Hasbro Suspends Critical Race Training Whistleblower, Says Report ‘Mischaracterizes Our Values’

Hasbro has reportedly suspended a whistleblower who leaked an internal training session at the company that claimed children as young as 2 years old can harbor racial biases. The toy-making giant claimed that the leaked information “mischaracterizes” the company’s values.
The training material was shared with and published by Project Veritas, a nonprofit undercover journalist outfit known for exposing anti-conservative bias in media and tech companies, by using what founder James O’Keefe has called “guerrilla journalist” tactics. The Conscious Kid, a California-based organization that describes itself as “dedicated to equity and promoting healthy racial identity development in youth,” provided the training for Hasbro.
The recorded training session, echoing the claims of the quasi-Marxist critical race theory (CRT), instructed Hasbro employees that racist behavior could be found in their youngest customers…. (Excerpts from the Epoch Times)

Brazen thieves in San Francisco are undeterred by uniformed security guards, surveillance cameras or customers filming on their cellphones. And corner markets and drug stores are the hardest hit. In one recent incident at a Walgreens, the shoplifter rode in on a bike, packed a trash bag of items, and rode out the front door. All of it was caught on camera. The thief hasn’t been arrested.
Jalal Haydari, owner of Limoncello Italian Market and Deli, said his store in tony Pacific Heights is targeted day and night. His 32 cameras catch criminals in the act all the time. In one video, a thief is seen breaking through a window and making off with cash and the electronic tablets needed to take delivery orders…

The National Association of Attorneys General had to urge Facebook to drop a potentially “harmful” project targeted at kids. Apparently, Facebook needs to be encouraged to protect children online.
Attorneys general from 44 states and territories sent a letter to Facebook Chief Executive Officer and founder Mark Zuckerberg. The Attorneys General urged Zuckerberg to scrap plans to develop an Instagram platform for children under the age of 13. Facebook is the parent company of Instagram. ..
