Sen. Johnson: Report Contradicts Biden Administration’s Narrative about Afghanistan Evacuations
District of Columbia | August 31, 2021
On Friday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken requesting information about an alleged incident at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul involving an U.S. military official preventing American citizens and Afghan allies from evacuating Afghanistan.
According to the allegation, “a group of over 400 individuals including U.S. citizens were turned away from the airport.” Specifically, “after buses full of potential evacuees arrived at the airport they ‘were met by the commander of the 82nd Airborne Brigade’ who told them to get back on their buses and turn around because ‘the rescue was over.’ It is not clear what happened to the Americans and the other individuals after they left the airport.”… (Excerpts from U.S. Senator Ron Johnson)
