Coach Fired for Post-Game Prayer Takes Case to Supreme Court: ‘Right This Wrong’

A high school coach who was fired for praying at the 50-yard-line after football games is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to get involved and protect not only his religious liberty but also the freedoms of thousands of other teachers in the region. Joe Kennedy, whose case has gained nationwide attention, was not retained as an assistant coach by Bremerton (Wash.) High School following the 2015 season after he prayed, multiple times, in violation of a district policy. Kennedy’s post-game prayers typically involved him kneeling silently at midfield.
Kennedy lost his case at the district court and at the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Supreme Court declined in 2019 to get involved, although four of the justices expressed openness to hearing the case at a later date after the lower courts better developed the record. Those four justices at the time said the Ninth Circuit’s reasoning “is troubling and may justify review in the future.”.. (Excerpts from the Christian Wire)

Last week’s non-ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court declined for a second time to hear an appeal from a flower shop owner in Washington state. Barronelle Stutzman, the owner, refused to provide flowers for a same-sex couple because her religious beliefs instruct her that marriage was created by God for opposite sexes. The U.S. Supreme Court had sent her case back to the state Supreme Court for further consideration. That court upheld its original ruling, forcing Stutzman to provide the flowers, or face penalties under the state’s anti-discrimination laws. Three conservative members of the U.S. Supreme Court wanted to hear the case. It takes four. What confuses many people is that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Colorado baker who refused on the same religious grounds as Stutzman to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple… (Excerpts from the Daily Signal)

Seattle Antifa Hate Group Threatens to Burn Down Church Over Event With Charlie Kirk

A Puyallup, Wash., church has canceled an event featuring conservative speaker Charlie Kirk after antifa activists threatened to burn down all of its buildings and torch the neighbors’ properties too. Motion Church planned an event with Kirk, the head of Turning Point USA and a Christian speaker, on May 2. The church, in a community south of Seattle, ministers to the homeless, lost, and addicted people in addition to hosting regular services and events at the church for families, and those seeking to know Christ more….
