Female Competitor Reacts To Trans Weightlifter Competing In Olympic Games
International | June 22, 2021
It’s looking like female weightlifter Anna Vanbellinghen is going to compete in the upcoming Olympic Games against Laurel Hubbard, a former men’s weightlifting competitor who now identities as a woman — and Vanbellinghen is not too thrilled.
The Belgian weightlifter likened the prospects of Hubbard, who is a biological man, competing in the Games to “a bad joke.”
“First off, I would like to stress that I fully support the transgender community, and that what I’m about to say doesn’t come from a place of rejection of this athlete’s identity,” Vanbellinghen said earlier this month. “I am aware that defining a legal frame for transgender participation in sports is very difficult since there is an infinite variety of situations, and that reaching an entirely satisfactory solution, from either side of the debate, is probably impossible.”…

The hospital cited the high risk-to-benefit ratio of hormonal interventions in children to justify their decision. What’s called the “Dutch Protocol,” of blocking puberty and then administering cross-sex hormones, may be falling out of favor. The National Health Service has suspended new hormonal interventions for minors under 16, and there’s growing resistance across Finland too…

Church of Scotland to debate legislation on same-sex marriage
International | May 10, 2021
The Church of Scotland’s General Assembly meeting later this month will debate legislation on allowing ministers to conduct same-sex marriages.
The legislation means that ministers and deacons would be able to apply for a license to become authorized celebrants for same-sex marriage ceremonies.
Provisions in the legislation say that no one will be forced to participate in or be involved in the arrangements for a same-sex marriage unless they explicitly wish to do so.
The proposals are being brought after the 2018 General Assembly instructed the Legal Questions Committee to prepare draft legislation.
If the Assembly, meeting from May 22–27, passes the legislation, it will then be shared with presbyteries for their consideration, with all responses to be returned to the principal clerk by no later than Dec. 31…
