Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee expressed doubt Monday that the U.S will be able to evacuate its remaining citizens and Afghan allies before an Aug. 31 deadline. “I think it’s possible, but I think it’s very unlikely given the number of Americans who still need to be evacuated, the number of [Special Immigrant Visa holders], the number of others who are members of the Afghan press, civil society leaders, women leaders,” Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told reporters, nodding to Afghan SIV holders who assisted the U.S. military… (Excerpts from The Hill)
